Southern Illinois: Head coach Chris Lowery has promoted Lance Irvin to Associate head coach.

Penn: Head coach Glen Miller has hired former player Jerome Allen as an assistant.  Allen assumes the spot of Perry Bromwell who has moved into a different role within the University.

Florida:  Armwood has hired Patrick Kelly as girls coach.  He was an assistant at the school on the boys team.  Former coach Billy Teeden left to take the boys job at East Bay.

San Diego, CA:  Dale Parker has been hired as the girls coach at Francis Parker High.

Hillsboro, OR:  Antoine Shired has been hired as the boys coach at Hillsboro High.  He was an assistant at Westview.

LaPorte, IA: Union High has hired Cliff Berinobis as the boys coach.

Indianapolis: Head coach Stan Gouard has filled out his staff, adding two guys, both from Southern Illinois.  We understand that both Aundrey Wright and Collin Lanam will serve as assistants.  Wright was the DBO and Lanam was a graduate manager for the Salukis.

Seattle University:  Head coach Cameron Dollar has hired Dwayne Canada to complete his staff.  Canada, who will be an assistant, has been an assistant at Sacramento St. for the last five seasons.

Centenary:  Head coach Greg Gary has also filled out his staff for the upcoming season with the hiring of Pape Koundoul and Chris McMillian.  Koundoul will serve as an assistant while McMillian will be the Director of Basketball Operations.

Louisville: We are hearing the Coach Pitino has hired Indianapolis Pike High School assistant coach Shabaka Lands to the position of Special Asst. to the Coach.  Marquis Teague, considered by many the top point guard in the 2011 class, plays at Pike.

Nashville, IL:  Brad Weathers has been named the head boys coach at Nashville High School.  Former head coach Darin Lee has accepted the same position at Collinsville High.

San Juan Capistrano, CA:  JSerra has hired Joedy Gardner as their new boys coach.

Minneapolis, MN:  Faith Johnson Patterson is leaving as girls head coach at North High.  In 14 seasons at the helm, Patterson led her team to 5 state titles and 4 second place finishes.  Assistant Tara Starks has been named the new head coach.  We have been told; yet have not confirmed, that Coach Patterson will become the new coach at DeLaSalle.

Notre Dame:  Due to a scheduling problem, Notre Dame is now looking for an opening game opponent for the current 2009-2010 season.  The open date is Friday November 13, 2009.  The game can be home or away (either as part of a home and home series).  Please contact Associate Head Coach Jonathan Tsipis at 574-631-5596 or 574-532-4276 to discuss any interest.

North Carolina:  Roy Williams has made an interesting move.  Williams has announced that three coaches, Joe Holladay, C.B. McGrath and Jerod Hasse will begin a three year rotation in which two of the three serve as assistants while the other will serve as DBO.  This season Holladay will serve as DBO.  Assistant Steve Robinson is not part of the rotation.

Flagler:  Grant Leonard has been named an assistant at Flagler.  He had been DBO at UT-PA for the past 3 seasons.

Illinois - Chicago:  Tracy Dildy has been promoted to Associate head coach.

College of St. Scholastica:  CSS has hired former player Owen Johnson as an assistant.  Johnson replaces Andrew Schmitz who left to become the Itasca Community College head coach.

Reno, NV:  North Valleys HS has hired Gary Hill-Thomas as the boys coach.  Hill-Thomas played in the D-League this past season.

Princeton:  Martin Bahar has been named the Director of Basketball Operations at Princeton.  Bahar worked in the basketball office at Georgetown this past season.

UNO - Univ. of New Orleans: Sources tell BasketballScoop that UNO has hired Bill Lewit as an assistant.  Lewit has been the head coach at Cecil College for years.

Elon:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Elon has added Keith Bell as Director of Basketball Operations.  Bell has served the past two years as head coach at Wilkes Community College.

Norwich:  Mark Zacher has been named head coach at Norwich University.  Zacher spent this past season as Associate head coach at Bethune-Cookman and was an assistant at Mount St. Mary’s for 10 seasons.

Mohawk Valley Community College:  MVCC has named Jason Carpenter as their new head coach.  Carpenter has spent the last five seasons as an assistant on the Men’s side at both MVCC and SUNY Oneonta.

Manchester, CT:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Al Lewis, former girls coach at East Lyme, will be named girls coach at East Catholic HS.

Tallahasee, FL:  Tony Sheals has been hired as the boys coach at Florida A&M Univ. Developmental Research School (FAMU-DRS).  Sheals comes from Palm Beach Community College.

Whidbey Island, WA: South Whidbey has hired Chris Ferrier as boys coach.

Western Illinois: We hear that Western head coach Leslie Crane is planning to hire former player Stephanie Lovingood as an assistant.  Lovingood graduated in 2008 and played overseas this past season.

University of Iowa:  Head coach Lisa Bluder has hired former player Abby Emmert as Director of Basketball Operations.  Emmert was the captain of the team in 2008.

Kentucky: We hear that Coach Cal has hired Brandon Weems as a Grad Assistant.  Weems was one of LeBron James high school teammates and is one of his closest friends.

Idaho Stampede (D-League): Bob MacKinnon has been named head coach of the Stampede.  MacKinnon coached the Colorado 14ers to the D-League championship this past season.

Ball St.:  Head coach Billy Taylor has made some moves.  First, he promoted Bob Simmons to Associate head coach.  Simmons is in his third season at Ball St.  Taylor also has hired Mitch Gilfillan as Director of Basketball Operations.  Gilfillan is replacing Matt Laur who accepted an assistant position at SIU-Edwardsville.  Gilfillan, who just finished law school, played for Taylor and Simmons at Lehigh.

Maine Red Claws: In addition to the hiring of Randy Livingston as an assistant, the Red Claws have also hired Mike Procopio as an assistant.

Newman University (KS): We hear DII Newman has hired former Pittsburg St. player Caitlin Demarest as an assistant.

Southern Nazarene:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Jeff Caha has been hired as an assistant at Southern Nazarene in Oklahoma.  Caha has previously coaches at both Cochise College and Southwestern Oklahoma St.

Toledo:  We hear that Tricia Cullop has hired Katie Griggs as an assistant.  Griggs played under Cullop while she was an assistant at Xavier.

St. John’s: Sources tell BasketballScoop that St. John’s will hire Megan Duffy (former Notre Dame star player) as an assistant, filling the spot that came open when Danny Hughes left for SMU.

Northeastern:  Head coach Daynia Laforce-Mann has hired Jody Burrows as an assistant and has added Rashard Thurston in an administrative capacity.

UAB: Former LA Tech women’s coach Chris Long has been hired by Mike Davis as an assistant.

Indiana:  We hear that the Hoosiers have hired Drew Adams as Coordinator of Basketball Operations.  Adams is a coach with the Indiana Elite travel team.

UC Irvine: Eric Glass has been hired as Video Coordinator at UC Irvine.  Glass worked the past four seasons in various off the court capacities at Cal St. Fullerton.

University of Denver:  Head coach Joe Scott has also been extended through the 2014-2015 season.

Young Harris College: Former Georgia Associate head coach Pete Herrmann has been named the head coach at YHC, currently a two year school with plans to move to a four year program soon.

Rider: Ben Luber has been hired as Director of Basketball Operations.

Oklahoma St.:  Travis Ford has received an extension through the 2018-2019 season.  This year he will earn $1.8 million (up from $900k).  He is set to receive annual increases with his package capping out at $2.8 million in the final years of his contract.

South Alabama:  Head coach Ronnie Arrow has promoted Chuck Taylor to Associate head coach and moved Michael Floyd up to first assistant.  Both coaches are in their third seasons at South Alabama.

Ohio Christian: Head coach Curtis Christopher has hired Sky Brusco as an assistant.  Brusco was the head coach at Fairfield Christian Academy for the past two seasons.

Thiel College:  Angie Zeuch has been hired as the head coach at Thiel.  Zeuch was an assistant for the past two seasons at Wesleyan University in CT.

UT-Dallas: Tierney Hughes has been hired as an assistant, replacing Matt Wallis who left earlier this Summer to become the head coach at Schreiner University.

Hornell, NY: We hear that Hornell high boys coach Rob Steadman has been forced to resign over a teaching certification issue.  No word on a new coach yet.

Indiana Tech: Sources tell BasketballScoop that Rodney Hampton has been named the new coach at Indiana Tech.

Lambuth University:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that the search at Lambuth has been narrowed down to 3.  Oklahoma Baptist assistant John Marcum, local high school coach Joe Holloway and Grand Canyon University assistant Timm Dixon appear to be the finalists.  We hear an announcement could be made at the end of this week or early next.

Columbia: Head coach Joe Jones has hired Marlon Sears as an assistant.  Sears was an assistant and the recruiting coordinator last year at High Point.

Santa Rosa, CA:  Girls coach Russ Gardiner has stepped down at Sonoma Academy.  Assistant Kevin Christensen will become the new head coach.

Yorktown, VA:  Grafton High has hired Jeremy Jordan as their new boys coach and has promoted Tommy Bayse to be the girls head coach.

Yakima, WA: Eisenhower High has hired Dennis Richardson to be their girls coach.  Richardson teaches at Tieton Intermediate and has previously coached Highland’s girls team.

Wilmington University:  New head coach Mike Gallagher has announced his staff.  Mark Napoleon will join the staff as an assistant after working last season as an assistant for Gallagher at Neumann.  Tim Dunne comes back to coach at the college level after coaching the Timber Creek (NJ) High School team the last two seasons.  Nate Ware rounds out the group of assistants.  Ware was the coach of the women’s basketball team at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (another spot Gallagher used to coach).

South Florida:  Former player Altron Jackson has been hired as a Manager on Stan Heath’s staff.

Stetson:  Chris Capko has been hired as the third assistant at Stetson.  Last season he worked as a Grad Assistant at Marshall.  Capko fills the spot the became open when Jon Coffman left to take an assistant position at Colgate.

Northern New Mexico College:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Robert Lopez has been hired as an assistant at Northern.

Ireland: We hear former Bowie St. head coach Luke D’Alessio has accepted the head coaching position with the UCC Blue Demons of the Irish professional league.  Interestingly, he is taking the place of Doug Leichner who returned to the states this Summer to coach at Maine.

Tarleton St.:  We hear that Matt Keefe has been added as an assistant at Tarleton St.

Southern Mississippi: Sources tell BasketballScoop that USM head coach Joye Lee-McNellis plans to hire Stephanie Schueler as an assistant.  Schueler coached at Stetson Univ. this past season.

Pittsburg St.:  Legendary Pitt St. head coach Gene Iba has announced that this season will be his last.  Iba plans to retire at the end of next season to spend more time with his family.  Iba has coached at Pitt St. for 15 seasons and has been coaching for over 40 years.

Yale:  Yale head coach James Jones has filled the open spot created in July when assistant Mark Gilbride left to become the head coach at Clarkson.  Jones has hired Jamie Snyder-Fair from Washington & Lee.  Snyder-Fair was at W&L last season and has previously coached at Vassar and Amherst.

Kentucky:  BasketballScoop has confirmed that Bilal Batley has left the Kentucky Basketball program.  Batley had served as an assistant director of basketball operations (a position similar to that which he held under Coach Cal at Memphis).

Tri-Cities, Washington:  Pasco High has it’s new coaches.  Aaron Barcot has been named the girls coach and Winton Lytle has been named the boys coach.  Both former coaches, Steve Davis (girls) and Chad Herron (boys), moved over to Chiawana as the new head coaches there.

East Haven, CT: Jim Reynolds has been named the boys coach at East Haven.  Reynolds has been at Guilford; but was also the long time coach at Wilbur Cross.

Goldsboro, NC:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Goldsboro High has named Patrick Reynell as the new boys coach.

Providence:  Michael Mennenga has been hired as Coordinator of Player Development, repleacing Josh Sash who took an assistant position at Temple College in TX.

Colorado: Sources tell BasketballScoop that head coach Jeff Bzdelik does not plan to hire another coach for the upcoming season.  Rather, we understand he likely will “reassign” duties within the current staff with Drew Long (Coordinator of Ops) likely being the guy who gets to step up.

Penn St. Altoona:  Billy Clapper has been hired as the head coach at Altoona.  Clapper spent the last two seasons at Pitt-Johnstown.

Northwest Florida State College:  Joe Richardson has been hired as an assistant at NWF State College.  Richardson comes from Bevill St. CC and is replacing Will Jones who left earlier this Summer to become an assistant at Charleston Southern.

Samford:  Head coach Mike Morris has hired Elyse Umeda as an assistant.  Umeda played at Princeton, graduating in 2007, and has been coaching in Hawaii since.

Northwest Florida State College:  Tamela McCorvey has been hired as an assistant at NWF State College.  McCorvey played at NWF before going on to play her final two seasons at Auburn.  This will be her first coaching job.

Elgin, IL: Amy Silverman has decided to step down as girls coach at Larkin.  She had been the head coach for 14 seasons.  Separately, Larkin has announced the hiring of Deryn Carter as their boys coach, replacing Larry Hight.

BYU:  Head coach Jeff Judkins has hired Chris Boettcher as an assistant.  Boettcher had been Associate head coach at Utah Valley where he had been for the past eight seasons and will replace Jonas Chatterton on the staff.

LaSalle:  Head coach John Giannini has promoted Sean Neal from Video Coordinator to Director of Basketball Operations.

Ohio Wesleyan:  Sources tell BasketballScoop that OWU has hired Marcus Gill as an assistant.  Gill was an assistant at Albion.

Breaking News

Army:  Multiple sources have indicated to BasketballScoop that head coach Jim Crews is no longer part of the program.  We have yet to confirm this; but no one at Army has denied it to us either.  The circumstances surrounding his departure are unclear at this time.

Army: Received the official word from Army this morning that head coach Jim Crews has been terminated.  In the release, the AD says, “I am very disappointed with some things that have come to my attention in recent days and I have decided that it is in the best interests of the basketball program and the institution to terminate our relationship.”  In making the announcement the AD stated that a search would begin immediately.

SDSU:  Steve Fischer has received an extension through the 2012-2013 season.

Maine:  Ed Kohtala has been hired as an assistant at Maine.  Kohtala has been an assistant at Missouri-Kansas City for the past two seasons.

UW Stevens Point: The Pointers have hired Lance Randall as an assistant.  Randall led his high school team to back to back state titles in 2006-2007.

Army:  The rumors are flying and we seem to be getting an email an hour about them.  There literally are too many names to rattle off; but here’s a relatively short list of those that we feel make considerable sense.  ASU’s associate head coach (and 2009 BasketballScoop Rising Star) Dedrique Taylor, Tulsa associate head coach Dave Cason, Navy assistant Eugene Burroughs, Wake’s Walt Corbean, St. Mary’s associate head coach Kyle Smith, and there are plenty of others…We are told that both Jamie Dixon and Mike Krzyzewski are being consulted.  We understand that the current assistants have been told their contracts will be honored.

Grambling:  Head coach Ricky Duckett has been placed on administrative leave and the school has said that his contract will expire on October 31.  The move comes about a month after one of his players died after reportedly suffering a heat related illness during  off-season conditioning drills supervised by an assistant.  No word yet on who the next coach will be.  Duckett had been on Dave Odom’s staff at Wake since 2002 before accepting the Grambling head job in May 2008.

Tennessee Tech:  New head coach Sytia Messer has made two hirings.  Messer has added Dee Bell and Bett Shelby as assistants.  Bell served the past three seasons as the head coach at Martin Methodist College while Shelby comes over from Stetson (and she was at ECU for a few years before that).  Sources tell BasketballScoop that Messer hopes to name her third assistant within the next two weeks.
